back rent

Following the once-in-a-lifetime COVID-19 pandemic which also was responsible for the eviction moratorium, many tenants across Oregon have found themselves behind on rent.

For some renters, it’s a few hundred dollars, while many others, they owe thousands of dollars in back rent, and the big question is how long do tenants in Oregon have to pay the late rent that they owe?

In this article, we will answer this question and offer you insight into how long tenants have to repay rent in the state of Oregon.

Oregon Tenants Have Until February 2022 To Pay Back Rent

Since the pandemic has been winding down, and life has been slowly returning to normal in Oregon. two things must return to normal as well.

The eviction moratorium must end permanently and late rent must be repaid.

Thanks to recent legislative actions, we know that tenants have until February 28th, 2022 to repay rent that they owe from April 2020 through June 2021, the months that most tenants in Oregon were not able to pay rent due to COVID-19.

To aid tenants in Oregon, Governor Brown and the State of Oregon have ruled that (back) rent during COVID-19 must be kept secret and not reported to the credit bureaus.

Sadly, even though tenants are facing a deadline on back, rent, the big question is will they be able to pay that late rent? Or will the State try to extend this deadline like the eviction moratoriums have been extended?
